The way Bonang Matheba dresses, it’s as if she was there when the legendary Diana Vreeland said, “Fashion is part of the daily air and it changes all the time, with all the events. You can even see the approaching of a revolution in clothes. You can see and feel everything in clothes.” That is the vibe that Bonang has been giving to us in the past weeks. The award winning media personality has been globetrotting in style and we can’t help it but envy her travelling wardrobe. She calls herself “Dora, The Explora” and she is dragging her Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior luggage with her from OR Tambo Airport to JFK Airport , from New York City to Manchester City .
Bonang is not necessarily on holiday, the girl is working, securing the bag and saving the world. She was at the United Nations Women Summit in India where she spoke about the liberation of young girls and “making education more accessible” . Remember she has the Bonang Matheba Bursary Fund which assist young girls with education fees. She is also working close with Global Citizen and was filming something in Times Square that we wonder about. We love this Victoria Hayes collection silk tracksuit she is wearing. The pink pumps add simplicity to the printed combo which we suspect was styled by her long time friend , renowned stylist, H Diddy. She has a ring on too….on the wedding ring finger …..we wonder ……
Her New York wardrobe was nothing short of Breakfast At Tiffany’s except pink, which is her favorite colour. The suit she was wearing is by Ukrainian designer Litkovskaya and the fur coat she threw on top finished the entire look…. she basically look rich. I am not sure however about the shoes, they are open and contradict the winter look but I am sure when you are Bonang no snow formed against you shall prosper…. or she pretended like she didn’t feel the cold just to look proper .
Then she was in Manchester dressed in a rather cool Milano Di Rouge tracksuit, with Balenciaga white pumps and a Dior bag. A sports combo that set us charging . Listen, the late Karl Lagerfeld once said “sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life so you bought some sweatpants.” …..But he never said “well designed Milano sweatpants are a sign of defeat ” which is why Bonang got it right because she hasn’t lost control of her life.
Can we take a moment to appreciate this Morsedecode leather suit……Amen….Now, if you are bored by us praising Bonang’s wardrobe , I suggest you calm yourself down because we are not done. If there is something to critic, we will do that, but today we want only good vibes.
What’s the point of being a fashionista if you won’t wear local brands? Bonang here is wearing a coat by the talented South African designer Rich Mnisi. We’ve touched and felt this coat before at SAFW but we were too broke to buy it but we are happy for Bonang for affording it….not really…we are jealous.
Bonang Matheba is probably one of the most stylish women in Africa and having coins afford her all the luxury brands any girl dreams off. It’s one thing to have money and it’s another thing to have style, she currently has both …Bonang has done justice to her brand by having an international stylist introduce her to not just the known brands but the unknown ones . We hope to see her wearing more local brands and clothes by African designers.
